WAN helps more people work from home
The increase in remote working that is taking place throughout the UK is largely attributable to Wide Area Network (WAN) technology, according to Dr Steve turner of Intergence.
As more of us start to consider either working from home, or allowing our staff to work from home, through a virtual office environment, WAN optimisation is vital, claims Turner. WAN helps to increase the speed of applications that use up a lot of bandwidth, thus reducing congestion and reducing latency for all those using the network.
The adoption of WAN technology has allowed many businesses to make the most of their sometimes limited networks and allow staff to embrace remote working.
This is great news for any business considering a move into the world of the virtual office, of which there are many for several reasons, according to research from Flexibility.co.uk, which provides resources for home workers. It claims that 30 per cent of the UK population will work from home either some or all of the time by the end of the year. The Olympics and the increased pressure to reduce the amount of traffic on the roads and provide people with a better work-life balance is prompting the change in approach.
Dr Turner explained that WAN helps people working in remote regions to access the programs they need to work from home. He said, “WAN optimisation covers many areas which are of significant interest to companies with remote branch offices and who are struggling with performance.”
He added that WAN Acceleration can also help to improve connection speeds for remote workers.
