New research has shown that the number of subscribers making use of communication services such as VoIP is on an upward trajectory.
The 'VoIP and UC Services and Subscribers market share and forecast report' – which was compiled by market research firm Infonetics Research – revealed a sharp rise in those using unified communications (UC) services, with both businesses and individuals finding that the reliable, fast and cost-effective service works for their needs.
The findings echo recent figures which showed that the global VoIP market expanded by nine per cent over the course of last year when compared to the year prior, and it is now said to be worth a total of £41.2 billion.
Principal analyst for VoIP, UC and IMS at Infonetics Research, Diane Myers, confirmed that, such was its popularity, VoIP had now become “mainstream. “The market for VoIP services has moved well beyond the early adopter stage to mainstream status in many developed countries. New geographic regions are opening up, and SIP trunking and hosted UC continue to heat things up, fuelling growth,” she said.
Ms Myers added, "Vendors are increasingly pitching cloud telephony and unified communications services alongside SIP trunking as more multi-site businesses seek out hybrid solutions."
VoIP allows organisations to lower their communication costs – something which is especially important against the current economic backdrop. Typically, the costs relating to making VoIP calls are far cheaper than those charged by standard telephone operators.
It also offers a cost-effective and reliable way of making international calls, as calls carried out over the web are far cheaper than those made using traditional communication technology.
