Survey reveals clear move towards VoIP telephony
A US-based survey has found that a growing number of businesses are opting in favour of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communication instead of traditional landlines.
The survey, carried out by Seattle-based WhichVoIP, found that three quarters of all international calls are now being made over the internet via VoIP.
VoIP service providers are welcoming this insight into the future of business telephony and claim that the move towards internet-based telecommunications is not a phase and will, indeed, be the basis of business telecoms in the future.
The survey found that 80 per cent of the respondents said that VoIP allows them to make calls more cheaply and that this is a major factor in their move towards the technology. More than half (60 per cent) said that they appreciated the added features, which come at no extra cost, while the same percentage cited the “knowledge of sales staff” as a reason to opt for VoIP.
A third of those questioned said that the “friendliness of the salesperson” was important to them when choosing their VoIP provider.
Many businesses find that the cost saving they can make as a result of the lack of hardware needed to make calls is the main reason for choosing internet-based telephony. The technology also allows staff to use the internet to make and receive calls via their mobile phones when they are on the move.
WhichVoIP’s CFO, Mike Bragg, said, “This is real data from customers telling us what they would like from providers - not only in terms of service, but also in terms of the sales process.
“Business VoIP service providers who seek business customers can benefit greatly from the information our survey revealed.”
Businesses looking to move services into the cloud, should evaluate the performance of their existing network and consider setting up a leased line or MPLS network.
