Superfast broadband for Essex takes a step forward
Those living in Essex could soon be seeing superfast broadband services coming to their local area.
Plans to implement the highspeed internet connection have taken a step forward, with the organisation behind it being given Government permission to issue its tender documents. Funding for the highspeed services has also been given ‘provisional approval’, This is Total Essex reported.
It is clear that local residents are keen for the broadband to be rolled out as quickly as possible, as evidenced by the huge response to a survey carried out by the Superfast Essex programme. More than 10,000 responses have been received relating to its Make the Connection broadband survey.
Cabinet member for economic growth, Cllr Kevin Bentley, told the publication: “This level of response is a good sign that Essex is serious about broadband and that many residents and businesses have expressed a need for superfast broadband.
"We will continue to urge others to register their need as the team works on delivering the project. For the success of Superfast Essex and the delivery of the BDUK project it’s essential that we continue conversations with residents and businesses,” Cllr Bentley said.
The councillor went on to add that superfast broadband had become one of the top priorities for Essex of late, as the area looked to serve its local residents and businesses better. Connectivity to business parks was also listed as being extremely high on the agenda.
There is still time to respond to the broadband survey, and two respondents to the survey could be in with a chance of winning Dell XPS 10 Tablets, provided by Superfast Essex. The winners – which will be drawn from all those who have already submitted responses since the survey was first begun in 2012, plus any new entries - will be announced on 27 September.
