SMEs failing to make the most of the internet
SMEs failing to make the most of the internet
New research suggests only 27 per cent of SMEs use the internet to market their products or services. So why are so many small and medium sized businesses failing to make the most of the web?
The figures come from a study by Bdaily, which found that 57 per cent of SMEs supply their goods and services within just a ten-mile radius and are failing to make the most of the internet as a way to reach out to new markets and customers.
One of the main reasons why smaller businesses are not getting online is their failure to keep up with the latest technology and connectivity, which makes online marketing easier and more possible. Having a fast internet connection is the first step to moving online and making the most of what the internet has to offer even the smallest business. Firms based in rural locations that do not have access to broadband can even get online with the help of a leased line connection.
Once this initial step has been taken, SMEs can draw further benefit from taking on a member of staff with expertise in social networking, online merchandising, copywriting and even web design.
Smaller retail businesses moving into ecommerce also need to ensure that their supply chain is functioning effectively because reputation is everything when selling online. If people who have ordered goods don’t receive them for some reason, they will not come back again.
Budget can be another thing holding SMEs back from investing in their online presence. However, there are some good deals available for those who decide to opt for leased line connectivity.
