SMEs failing to embrace cloud computing
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are failing to embrace the benefits of cloud computing, a recent survey has revealed.
Conducted by network support company Lifeline IT, the survey found that the vast majority (95 per cent) of SMEs feel that advances in technology are too complex and confusing for them to implement. As a result, they are missing out on possible cost saving solutions, such as cloud computing.
Just ten per cent felt that cloud computing was important, while 14 per cent stated that innovation in general was a high priority. Meanwhile, 97 per cent cited IT security to be important to them and 96 per cent claimed that resilience and reliability were something to focus strongly on.
A major reason why smaller companies felt unable to access modern IT systems was the fact that they believed the networks and systems required more specialist support. The vast majority - three quarters - of respondents felt this way. Meanwhile, two thirds explained that they have been forced to cut their IT budgets due to the financial strain.
However, solutions like cloud computing can actually help firms save money by outsourcing much of their IT maintenance requirements. However, a good business connection is important when looking into the cloud, so it is worth comparing leased line prices before committing to moving to the cloud.
Lifeline IT founder and director Daniel Mitchell commented, “Despite technology playing an increasingly important role in business growth and development, companies are failing to get to grips with some fundamental basics around security and innovation.
“IT and technology can be confusing but with credible advice and wise financial investment, it can bring huge amounts of added value to an organisation," he added.
