Charities to benefit from Google for NonProfit's free IT

Tech giant Google has announced that it is to launch its Google for Nonprofits programme across the UK, which will provide free IT and related resources to charities.

Already active in the US, the programme will begin here in England and Wales and will allow UK charities that have registered with the programme to access free Google Apps in order to improve their charitable offerings.

The organisations will also receive up to £6,600 a month of free advertising on Google AdWords to assist them in reaching more charitable donors, and will receive premium features on YouTube and Google’s mapping technologies.

The Google for Nonprofits programme will also include online resources, such as case studies, educational videos, and advice on how charities can best link with other non-profits across the globe.

Xiaonan Zhao, product manager at Google for Nonprofits, told Computer World UK: “Over the years, Google has donated over $1 billion worth of products to non-profits, and several UK organisations are already using our tools."

“BeatBullying, a charity that fights online bullying, uses Google Apps to enable more sharing and collaboration amongst colleagues; the Royal National Lifeboat Institution uses Google AdWords and YouTube to raise awareness and recruit more supporters; and WaterAid uses Google mapping technologies to show their work is making a difference,” she added.

The Google organisation confirmed that it was “inspired and humbled by the amazing ways non-profits are making the world a better place” and confirmed how much it was looking forward to “supporting the work of more UK non-profits".
