SaaS provider launches CRM system
A Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) provider has launched a new online service designed to help businesses to keep their sales contacts up to date.
Dubbed Data.com, the paid-for offering from Salesforce.com will “seamlessly integrate” the information of over 200 million businesses with contact details of around 30 million businesses through partnerships with credit checking agency Dun & Bradstreet and business service Jigsaw.
The news comes as shares in Salesforce.com Inc have shown sharp gains, rising by ten per cent over the past week. According to analysts, this is due to the fact that SaaS and other on-demand software systems are growing in popularity along with cloud computing. VMware Inc., another key player in the sector, also showed significant gains in its share price.
Richard Baldry, an analyst at Wunderlich Securities, told MarketWatch that SaaS is likely to be an area of “relentless growth” thanks to the fact that businesses are shifting from “traditional up-front licensing and on-premise deployment models, in favour of low up-front cost, recurring revenue-orientated” systems.
He added that Salesforce.com is likely to remain a “top-tier global technology player over the decade ahead” due to the fact that SaaS is becoming the “preferred software delivery method”.
The Data.com service is being sold on the value of accurate contact information which will be kept up-to-date through the use of a crowd-sourcing model, allowing users to contribute data and help to ensure that records are clear of factual errors.
Businesses that wish to access the cloud-based storehouse of information for their own customer relationship management (CRM) systems will benefit from checking that their own networks are up to scratch.
