Successful FTTP broadband trial expanded in Swindon

Superfast broadband will now be available to every home and business in the Priory Vale area of Swindon following a trial period.

Approximately 500 properties took part in the trial, which involved being connected via a fibre to the premises (FTTP) broadband. This connection offers 330Mbps speeds and after the trial, this will be extended to 1,000 homes and businesses.

An additional 5,500 homes in the Priory Vale area will get access to fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) broadband and will be able to achieve speeds of up to 80Mbps, depending on the distance from the cabinet to the premises.

Faster broadband will be made available to every home and business in the Priory Vale area of Swindon following a successful trial in the area. The planned expansion is set to start in the next few months, with services available from spring 2017.

Following on from the success of this trial, BT Openreach, the company that launched the trial plans for further rollouts of FTTP technology and to “carry out significant investment to expand superfast and ultrafast broadband networks”.

Following the trial and subsequent announcement, Swindon North MP Justin Tomlinson, said: “For years I’ve worked with fellow local residents to push for access to superfast fibre broadband, and we know from the successful pilots, demand will be very, very high.

“It is a credit to BT that they have worked with us to deliver this solution, a real welcome boost to our local community.”
