33,000 North Lincolnshire homes connected to superfast broadband
More than 33,000 homes and businesses in North Lincolnshire now have access to superfast fibre broadband thanks to the rollout of a broadband scheme, according to the most recent figures.
As part of the second phase of Northern Lincs Broadband NLBB) project, villagers are among the first to gain access to the new broadband connection and speeds. The second phase builds on top of the first phase in a project costing £7 million in total. So far, the project has connected 92.5 per cent of Northern Lincolnshire homes and businesses to fibre broadband and brought superfast speeds to more than 31,000 properties.
The second phase is expected to connect a further 3,400 homes to the superfast fibre connection by the time it is completed. It’s hoped that, by 2018, 99 per cent of premises in Northern Lincolnshire will be connected to the new broadband connection, beating the government’s national target of 95 per cent.
Councillor Rob Waltham, the deputy leader of the North Lincolnshire Council, said of the recent figures: "North Lincolnshire Council is leading the way in providing high-speed broadband. Working with BT, we have already made the technology available to more than 31,000 premises in Northern Lincolnshire, including more than 4,000 businesses. And phase two is on track and progressing well.
"We are committed to ensuring that as many businesses as possible receive the broadband speed they need and deserve to help their business grow and prosper, which in turn creates jobs and a prosperous economy. It also means a great deal to residents as it enables them to do things online much faster, ultimately saving time and money."
