Thousands to benefit from Hampshire broadband rollout
Thousands of homes and businesses in Hampshire stand to benefit from the next phase of the county's broadband rollout.
The second phase of the Hampshire Superfast Broadband Programme will cost £18.4 million, The Portsmouth News reported. Due to be carried out between January next year and September 2018, the programme will see a further 9,000 premises connected to superfast broadband - speeds of at least 24 Mbps.
Hampshire County Council leader Councillor Roy Perry said the roll-out would provide a boost to the county. He said: "This is great news for Hampshire. Once this stage is complete, we will have reached our initial target of ensuring 96 per cent of Hampshire’s homes and businesses have access to superfast broadband.
"Our programme has, so far, provided an extra 72,000 premises with access to superfast broadband. These are locations that would not have been covered by the commercial market."
Meanwhile, in the north of the country, it has been announced that residents and businesses in a Chorley village will have access to high speed broadband by Christmas. According to the Lancashire Evening Post, broadband coverage in Chorley is already at around 95 per cent, but improving access in the few remaining areas that have not been covered, such as Wheelton, will help push this towards 100 per cent.
A spokesman for Superfast Lancashire said: "There are already 2,000 homes and businesses in the Brinscall exchange area which have access to the high speed fibre broadband network.
"In addition we are in the process of completing the final work that will feed the remaining parts of Wheelton, which means they should be able to order fibre broadband by Christmas."
The spokesman added that around 200 premises would benefit from the latest rollout, with the new service welcomed by local residents and particularly those working in the area.
Almost all businesses today need reliable, superfast broadband, which is not always available in their area, so getting a dedicated leased line for the premises can be the best solution. hSo provides managed networks designed for business - to get an instant cost for a leased line at your location, visit our online leased line price checker.
