Superfast broadband reaches two million in West Midlands
The number of homes and businesses now able to access superfast broadband in the West Midlands has broken the two million mark.
Ken Wigfield, West Midlands area policy chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, has welcomed the news, stressing just how important superfast broadband is for SMEs across the UK.
He said: “Two million premises with access to high-speed broadband is a marvellous milestone in the evolution of this crucial, national infrastructure.
“Whilst many small businesses operating in and around domestic premises have benefited from this gradual progress, it is great to know that recent expansions of the network are enabling more and more businesses to acquire a level of connectivity that is essential for modern-day commerce.
“We look forward to speedily reaching the next milestone in order to bring the advantages of greater bandwidth to every member of the business community.”
The news was announced by Bill Murphy, managing director of next generation access for BT - the man overseeing the roll-out of superfast broadband in Britain. Speaking during a visit to Somerset, Mr Murphy also praised the progress being made in this region.
He stated that more than a third of a million Somerset premises now have access to fibre broadband, which is an increase of more than 75,000 since January this year. Moreover, an additional 6,000 premises in North Somerset are getting access to superfast broadband every week.
Phil Smith, managing director of Business West, praised the work that has been done, stating that he "wholeheartedly welcomes" the investment and effort being put into getting small businesses in Somerset connected to better broadband services.
Almost all businesses today need reliable, superfast broadband, which is not always available in their area, so getting a dedicated leased line for the premises can be the best solution. hSo provides managed networks designed for business - to get an instant cost for a leased line at your location, visit our online leased line price checker.
