Superfast broadband 'just part' of the UK's digital revolution

The rollout of superfast broadband is critical to the UK's development, but it is just part of a wider "digital revolution", Ed Vaizey has said.

Writing in a blog post, the digital minister outlined the key ingredients to the success of the country's 'digital revolution'.

They include promoting the digital growth of UK businesses, creating a 'digital government', and transforming day to day life with new technologies.

Mr Vaizey called on the public to pitch their ideas for the UK's 'digital revolution' and to push the government do more to promote innovation.

However, the digital minister stressed that to make driverless cars and deliveries by drone a reality, it is critical that all homes and businesses have access to superfast broadband.

“On connectivity we’re on track to deliver superfast broadband to 95 per cent of the UK by the end of 2017 – and we’re planning to make it a legal right for every home and business in the UK to request fast broadband," Mr Vaizey wrote.

“But [...] broadband is just part of the solution. We’re working to make internet access ubiquitous, so everyone can access it whenever and wherever they need it.”

Last week the government announced that it is on track to deliver superfast broadband to 95 per cent of UK homes and businesses by the end of 2017, with almost nine in 10 UK homes already benefiting from superfast speeds.

The rollout is currently expected to pass the four million milestone in spring 2016, according to the government.

Almost all businesses today need reliable, superfast broadband, which is not always available in their area, so getting a dedicated leased line for the premises can be the best solution. hSo provides managed networks designed for business - to get an instant cost for a leased line at your location, visit our online leased line price checker.
