Superfast broadband arrives early in South Staffordshire
Superfast broadband has arrived in South Staffordshire earlier than expected, much to the delight of the local residents.
More than 200 homes and businesses in Perton will now be able to access high speed broadband thanks to the completion of the next phase of the Superfast Staffordshire roll-out programme, which has been delivered several weeks ahead of schedule.
Premises in the area had previously only been served by 'exchange only' lines, rather than being connected to the main communications network using the usual road-side cabinets, the Express & Star reported. The installation of dedicated broadband infrastructure will now ensure these homes and businesses can access much faster broadband.
Councillor Phil Davis, vice chair of Perton Parish Council, commented on the news: "It’s great that these additional parts of Perton have now caught up with other areas of the village where faster fibre broadband has been available for some time."
Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, added: "It is great to see how well the roll-out has gone in Perton.
"I’d like to thank Superfast Staffordshire for all the work they have done getting these additional homes and businesses connected earlier than the scheduled date and I’m looking forward to seeing more of South Staffordshire getting connected."
To date, the Superfast Staffordshire programme has seen an extra 65,000 premises gain access to superfast broadband. The scheme has a target of 90,000 properties, which means that it has moved beyond two thirds completion.
Councillor Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council’s economy leader, said that this was great news for local businesses, which rely on superfast broadband to grow. He added that the rollout would also benefit leisure and employment in the area.
Almost all businesses today need reliable, superfast broadband, which is not always available in their area, so getting a dedicated leased line for the premises can be the best solution. hSo provides managed networks designed for business - to get an instant cost for a leased line at your location, visit our online leased line price checker.
