North Yorkshire helps 1,000th firm with superfast broadband

The benefits of the UK’s Superfast Broadband initiative are being realised across the country, with the 1,000th company in North Yorkshire now enrolled in the scheme.

The Business Support Programme run by Superfast North Yorkshire has educated Pro-Am Kits – its 1,000th firm – about the benefits of a better broadband connection. The sportswear start-up company has taken part in the initiative which educates them on how a faster internet connection could dramatically improve business productivity and efficiency.

With more and more business critical applications now being hosted online and in the cloud, it has become essential for a great number of businesses to have fast and reliable internet access. Having recognised this, the UK government has implemented its superfast broadband scheme to improve internet speeds up and down the country.

Local councils have subsequently launched programmes in their regions to both provide the infrastructure and education around superfast broadband so companies can realise the benefits of it. Superfast North Yorkshire Business Support Programme even gave Pro-Am Kits’ managing director Dan Hodgson a £700 grant for completing the scheme.

Mr Hodgson commented: “It has been just about a month since I completed the course and already I’ve seen a real impact on the business and been able to take on my first member of staff. The programme helped us to develop a new digital business strategy and launch an online marketing campaign which is really making a difference and helping to attract new customers.”

He added: "Having high-speed broadband definitely removes the barriers to doing business in the digital world like online trading and helps put you on an equal footing with larger businesses."
