MP campaigns for better broadband for constituents
The MP for Louth & Horncastle has taken her constituents' fight for better broadband to the government by bringing up the issues they are facing within a recent debate in the House of Commons.
Victoria Atkins MP has said that the government should host a 'not spot summit' to discuss how they are going to deliver superfast broadband to the parts of the UK that are currently without this vital service. At present, she said, large parts of her Lincolnshire constituency are without superfast broadband, which the MP states is "simply not acceptable".
Ms Atkins said: "I have campaigned for improved access to broadband in the constituency of Louth & Horncastle before, during and after the General Election campaign.
"Since then, I have made the case in the House of Commons and in meetings with BT themselves that the provision of superfast broadband in Louth & Horncastle must be a priority. It is simply not acceptable that in this day and age there are parts of our area that do not have access to broadband, let alone superfast broadband."
The MP went on to explain that fast broadband was essential for her constituents; while residents need it for everyday things like sending emails, filing tax returns and streaming films and TV, the businesses operating in the area also call upon broadband for their core services, the Louth Leader reported.
She gave the example of one local business that has been forced to take the matter into its own hands by purchasing the infrastructure it needs. Ms Atkins said that Millhouse Manufacturers in Kirkby-on-Bain, which employs 25 people locally, "has invested in new technologies to obtain superfast broadband" - this puts SMEs in the area at a disadvantage to companies in other regions, where superfast broadband is already available to them without their own investment.
Almost all businesses today need reliable, superfast broadband, which is not always available in their area, so getting a dedicated leased line for the premises can be the best solution. hSo provides managed networks designed for business - to get an instant cost for a leased line at your location, visit our online leased line price checker.
