IT sector ‘worried’ about skills and investment gaps
A lack of investment and a skills shortage is causing serious concern in the global technology industry, new research shows.
A study by technology recruiter Networkers found that among both private and public sector organisations there isn’t the sufficient resource to generate growth.
Over half of private IT and telecoms professionals think there is a skills gap. In the public sector, this figure stands at 63 per cent.
There are real problems recruiting for IT security analyst and cyber architect roles. These didn’t even exist 10 years ago, but they are now vital jobs given the speed at which the IT, tech and digital industries are growing.
"To win the war on cyber security, we must continue to invest in defences and recognise the opportunities for securing talent for the future," said James Smith, managing director of Networkers.
"Businesses are often unsure what they actually need with regards to cyber security and big data due to a lack of time, budget and knowledge about what the future looks like. It is therefore imperative that they take heed of the advice of their workforce and ensure they are best prepared for the challenges ahead.”
