Digital Derbyshire releases fast internet information pack
An information pack has this week been released for the residents of Derbyshire to explain about a new £15 million fast broadband service, backed by the Digital Derbyshire programme.
The scheme is expected to help improve the internet connections in areas that are currently very slow, helping businesses to compete and households to get the most from the internet. As many as 180,000 homes could benefit from the new scheme, many of which are in the Derbyshire Dales region.
Local councillor, Kevin Parkinson, said that the information pack was intended to cut through some of the jargon people in the area may have heard regarding the broadband scheme. He explained: "The new information pack gives an insight into the work of Digital Derbyshire and helps break down a lot of technological jargon which sometimes act as a barrier to would-be internet users.”
He added that the investment should mean that even those living in rural regions don’t have to “think twice” about working from home. Meanwhile, those running businesses can also make the most of new technologies, such as cloud computing and VoIP.
The Digital Derbyshire programme intends to ensure that 90 per cent of the region has access to internet connection speeds of more than 24Mbps. The remaining 10 per cent should be able to access speeds of at least 2Mbps.
