Technology could boost business productivity
Around half of employees in the UK have never worked from home, but with improvements in technology, many would relish the opportunity.
This is according to recent research from LG IT Solutions, conducted by Vision Critical, which revealed that 50 per cent of UK employees surveyed had never worked at home, despite the fact that 35 per cent believed their lives would be a lot easier if they had the option to do so.
However, better connectivity within business organisations could increase the possibilities for people to work from home or on the go. Indeed, 38 per cent of the 2,000 UK office workers questioned said better technology would help them to save time and work more productively, with many putting the emphasis on increasing the availability of up-to-date technology to permit working from home.
Mark Weston, channel manager for LG UK, commented: “The importance of technology in the workplace is something that we are all aware of, but there are still some businesses stuck in the slow lane when it comes to enabling remote working.”
He added that introducing decent technology and improving systems can help employees to “recreate the office environment at home and increase the productivity as well as the efficiency of the business overall”.
It is gradually becoming acknowledged among businesses that allowing people to work from home, at least on occasion, has a beneficial effect on their mindset and increases what they give back to the company. Indeed, Mr Weston observed that there are “huge benefits” for both employers and employees through remote working.
But to deliver these benefits, it is vital to ensure that a company's IT systems are up to scratch and that the connectivity of remote workers is good enough that their output won't be impaired.
