Midlands firms more open to homeworking, report finds
Firms based in the Midlands are more open to the concept of working from home than those located across the rest of the country, new research has found.
The UK-wide survey from data centre firm Node4 polled 250 IT strategy business decision makers working in firms with between 50 and 500 employees. It found that the majority – 64 per cent – of Midlands-based companies allow their employees the option to work from home if they wish.
The report also found that more than half – 55 per cent – of firms across the UK allow staff members to access the internal IT system and download documents while at home. However, firms in the Midlands were again found to be more likely to offer this to staff than those in other locations, including London.
Head of channel sales at Node4, Ian Millward, told Comms Business: “Providing the technology to enable staff to send and receive email, get on the corporate network and essentially work as they do in the office is no longer only available to large organisations.
“Companies of all sizes can now easily provide their employees with these capabilities on an op-ex based payment model, giving them access to best of breed technology at minimal cost to the business.”
Other positives that come with allowing employees to work from home is the ability for firms to hire the best talent, regardless of their location, as well as ensuring a better work/life balance for staff, especially those who live a long way from the office.
Mr Millward concluded: "Empowering staff to work from home has a positive impact on both the organisation and the employee."
