Faster broadband for Ross-on-Wye
Faster broadband for Ross-on-Wye
People working from home in the Ross-on-Wye area will be pleased to learn that work to bring fibre optic broadband is well underway, following the initial signing of the contract between local councils and BT in December of last year.
Complex work has begun to provide the super-fast broadband services to residents and businesses across the local area. BT Openreach employees, along with staff from electricity companies and local council planners have all been working together to install the necessary power cabinets across the area – something that is of particular importance within conservation areas.
Adam Johnstone, BT Openreach senior project manager for Fastershire, the faster broadband for Herefordshire and Gloucestershire project, told The Ross Gazette: “I am delighted with the significant progress that we have made to date in Ross-on-Wye. This is a major engineering task and has meant some disruption in the local area, but we hope residents and businesses will understand knowing that the end result will transform the lives of those that take advantage of faster broadband.”
The exchange area in Ross-on-Wye has been the first to be upgraded as a result of it feeding smaller exchanges including Upton Bishop, Symonds Yat, St Weonards and Much Marcle in Herefordshire. Planning work is ongoing across these areas to update their exchanges, and work has been scheduled to begin over the coming months.
Local Ross-on-Wye residents look set to be able to connect to the new network from autumn this year, and, in order to do so, need to contact their broadband service provider and place an order for a fibre package. A postcode and line checker should be available for residents to check whether their home or business will receive the new super-fast broadband service at www.fastershire.com.
