Broadband roll-out set to boost homeworking
The arrival of superfast broadband in Lincolnshire and Rutland is expected to boost homeworking and the competitiveness of small businesses in rural parts of the two counties.
The benefits of faster internet speeds in villages are being highlighted in a series of workshops for small business owners and homeworkers. They will receive information about the differences the changes will make and they will be given the opportunity to attend masterclasses on getting the best out of the technology.
Roger Begy, leader of Rutland County Council, said told the Skegness Standard: “Superfast broadband brings with it a wide range of benefits for business, particularly in a sparsely populated area like Rutland.
“With the growth and potential for home working and businesses based in our villages, it’s important that we make sure everyone is aware of how it can help them and how to benefit from the new technology.”
The events are being organised by OnLincolnshire and Digital Rutland and will be held in different parts of the two counties over the next year and a half. Businesses attending the workshops will have the opportunity to ask questions about the effects of the faster broadband speeds for their particular sectors.
Councillor Colin Davies of Lincolnshire County Council said it is vital to look at the impact that the improved speeds would have on businesses. The council is confident that the roll-out will help small businesses with high growth potential to become more competitive across a larger area.
Lincolnshire and Rutland are both benefiting from the Government’s roll-out of superfast broadband, which is aiming to bring faster internet speeds to 95 per cent of the UK’s homes and businesses by 2017.
