Lit Fibre goes live in Clacton-on-Sea
Internet Service Provider Lit Fibre has announced that its network has now gone live in homes in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.
The company announced its new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network would be covering the town just two months ago. Clacton-on-Sea is home to a population of around 57,000, and has been available for customers to place orders for service since the build was announced in January 2022.
Tom Williams, CEO of Lit Fibre, said: “We’re excited to be able to bring gigabit services to Clacton-on-Sea. We know how much the town has been suffering from poor broadband, being left behind by others who just talk of bringing better services here. Residents can now start to order symmetrical gigabit services and finally benefit from our reliable, consistent connections.”
Lit Fibre’s current plan will deliver its FTTP network to 100,000 homes across the UK in towns in Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire, Sudbury, Evesham and Frinton-on-Sea which is also in Essex. The build is ongoing across the country, but the work in Frinton-on-Sea, which was due to start last month has been postponed to “limit disruption to residents from multiple fibre operators already building networks in the town.”
Frinton-on-Sea which is close to Clacton-on-Sea is to home to a much smaller population in comparison and is home to around 5,000 residents.
Lit Fibre recently announced that it would be expanding its network delivery to 500,000 UK homes by 2026. The firm's rollout is funded by an unspecified investment from Newlight Partners LP.
Cllr Lesley Wagland, Essex County Council, said: “Digital connections are a huge benefit to our residents and businesses and we’re delighted to see commercial operators rolling out gigabit broadband across the county at a fast pace. We look forward to working closely with Lit Fibre and will continue to support the important work they do.”
