Worcestershire companies get business broadband boost
Companies based in Worcestershire have received a business broadband boost after millions of pounds were put into a scheme designed to bring connections to more properties.
The new extension to the current Superfast Worcestershire programme is set to result in more than 8,000 additional homes and businesses being able to access high-speed fibre broadband by summer 2018.
Additional investment into the scheme has been made by the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership and more work on local infrastructure will take place next year.
Sander Kristel, director of commercial and change at Worcestershire County Council, explained that there is a high level of demand for improved broadband speeds in the local area.
He said: "The extension programme will further improve fibre broadband speeds and increase the reach of our coverage. This is great news for residents and businesses.
"As well as driving business growth, fibre broadband offers new online learning and entertainment opportunities for households. The technology will also support our Digital Council transformation over the next decade."
An extra £6.2 million is being put into the Superfast Worcestershire programme to get thousands of local homes and businesses connected to faster internet speeds.
Quick and reliable business broadband connections are becoming increasingly vital to companies in the digital age and those without them may be left behind by their rivals.
Digital Minister Ed Vaizey added: "Already an additional 22,000 homes and businesses in Worcestershire can now access superfast speeds as a result of our work, and I'm delighted that this additional investment means our project will now reach another 8,000 properties."
Companies can get all the latest information on infrastructure upgrades on the Superfast Worcestershire website, which will soon be launching an updated postcode checker in the next few weeks.
Businesses looking to move services into the cloud should evaluate the performance of their existing network and consider setting up a leased line or MPLS network.
