US cloud company cements UK presence
US cloud computing company Salesforce has renamed its UK head office as part of its growth in the UK.
The firm has renamed the Heron Tower in London as the Salesforce Tower. It is aiming to create around 500 new jobs across Europe over the next year as more businesses adopt cloud computing practices.
Chief operating officer George Hu said: “We want a permanent home for Salesforce in the UK, somewhere where we can put down roots and create a world-class briefing centre for our customers.”
Salesforce currently supplies cloud computing services to a number of large British organisations including Alzheimer's Society and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
It is also planning to open a new data centre in the UK later this year as part of its expansion. The British centre is expected to be up and running by August, with additional data centres planned for France and Germany in 2015, V3 reported.
Having data centres within the countries where cloud providers are operating is considered an essential step towards the faster take up of the technology. It means companies’ information is stored within the same national boundaries as where they operate and is therefore subject to the same regulations. This is part of efforts by international companies to persuade businesses that their information is stored safely and increase their confidence in the cloud.
Salesforce said that cloud computing is now “at the heart” of innovation and growth across Europe and the company is expecting its European sales to grow by more than 40 per cent this year. On the Continent, the company has picked up major clients include BMW and Pernod Ricard.
Salesforce is not the only cloud company making inroads in the UK. Rackspace is also adding to its UK-based data centre capabilities with new space being created in Crawley, West Sussex.
Businesses looking to move services into the cloud, should evaluate the performance of their existing network and consider setting up a leased line or MPLS network. hSo provides managed networks designed for business.
