UK ranks among leaders for cloud computing policies
The UK is among the very strongest countries when it comes to cloud computing, according to the latest Global Cloud Computing Scorecard by the British Software Alliance (BSA).
The report ranked the UK in fourth place out of 24 leading IT economies, only trailing behind Germany, Japan and the United States. The rest of the top ten comprised Australia, Singapore, Canada, France, Italy and Spain.
This latest report shows that the UK has made strides in the cloud computing arena since the last Scorecard back in 2016, which ranked the UK in ninth place.
The report explains that the UK, along with the other leaders in the Cloud Computing arena, have much more effective and advanced cyber security and privacy policies in place. It also identifies the fact that Cloud Computing developments are increasingly driven by business, but that government is also catching on to the value of the technology and is doing more to support it with changes to policy.
The emphasis now, for the countries that are leading the way, is dealing with new technologies such as AI and blockchain. Cloud Computing has a role to play in the future of both of these technologies, but alongside the opportunities, inevitable security challenges are likely to arise. The countries that continue to introduce policies that deal with these challenges will continue to rank well in the Scorecards going forward.
Victoria Espinel, the president of the BSA, stated: “Cloud computing allows anyone to access technology previously available only to large organisations, paving the way for increased connectivity and innovation.
“Countries that embrace the free flow of data, implement cutting-edge cyber security solutions, protect intellectual property, and establish IT infrastructure will continue to reap the benefits of cloud computing for businesses and citizens alike.”
