UEFA agree to cloud computing deal
UEFA has seen that cloud computing holds a number of benefits and opted to sign a three-year deal with one of Europe's largest cloud service providers.
Football's governing body is set to receive its entire business operations and online presence for the next three seasons from Interoute, with everything from football competitions to business applications covered in the deal.
Among the systems to be hosted by Interoute are the Football Administration and Management Environment (FAME) and the UEFA.com website. FAME is the organisation's core IT platform and controls media bookings, accreditations, referee services and competition management.
The importance of the systems and heavy usage of the website (over 400 million users are expected to visit during international seasons) place a strong demand for good quality performance on the IT behind the services.
Gareth Williams, chief executive at Interoute, commented: “It is a huge endorsement of the quality of Interoute’s organisation, infrastructure and technical expertise that UEFA will rely on it to bring all the latest competition results and information to fans around the world, as well as underpinning online ticket sales and organisational applications.
“With the public-facing IT behind Europe’s most prestigious football being hosted in Europe’s largest private cloud, fans can expect a great experience from every click as well as every match.”
While it is important to select cloud computing services with a good reputation and a reliable service, a company can improve the service itself by ensuring that its own infrastructure and networks are up to scratch.
