Spotlight on hybrid cloud for 2012, says expert

According to news provider InformationWeek, cloud computing will see some dramatic steps forward over the coming year, with the hybrid cloud starting to take centre stage.

InformationWeek's editor-at-large, Charles Babcock, told CenterBeam.com that he expects to see a trending of the hybrid cloud in 2012, despite not expecting cloud computing as a whole to be able to ‘excite those in the IT field’ due to the vast leaps forward the sector made in 2011.

“The most obvious expression of the trend is the serious interest in private cloud computing, where more of the enterprise data center is given over to virtualized and automated operations, including end-user self service.

“Why? Because the public cloud, if still not fully trusted, is understood to be a long-term player on the landscape. The movement to internal cloud computing isn't in opposition to the public cloud. Rather, it reflects the growing sense within IT that its own environment will need to be as efficient and compatible as possible,” Mr Babcock went on to say.

Alongside the growing demand for and prevalence of the hybrid cloud, he also predicted some other trends that may well be seen within the sector over the course of 2012, which included improved in-depth cloud security and increased virtualization among clients.

One other trend mentioned was the increase of the number of companies opting to move into the cloud in order to make their operations more eco-friendly.

In related news, eWeek reported that cloud computing could become far more widespread over the course of 2012. As it becomes more straightforward for firms to move their applications into the cloud, an increased level of interest in the technology is predicted.
