SaaS sector to grow substantially, report finds

The enterprise software as a service (SaaS) market is set to see rapid growth between this year and 2018, according to new research.

The Cloud Computing – Enterprise Markets: SaaS, PaaS & IaaS, 2014-2018 report was carried out by Juniper Research. It found that revenues from the sector will reach the $53.5 billion mark in 2018, making up the majority – 59 per cent – of the enterprise public cloud computing market. This figure represents a rise from $23.2 billion last year.

The report suggested that SaaS would remain the dominant cloud model over the coming years, due to the fact that the service is mature and well accepted amongst business users.

It also found that both platform as a service (PaaS) and Infrastrcuture as a service (IaaS) will also enjoy significant growth over the next four years. This will come as a result of new applications which have been developed specifically for the cloud to make use of areas such as big data analysis.

Consolidation of PaaS as an add-on to other cloud services is also seeing a rise. Meanwhile, small businesses across the country are making use of IaaS as a result of a high level of control over the software stack and security implementation, Comms Business reported.
