SaaS diagnostics tool launched
A medical informatics firm has launched a new SaaS tool which can help diagnose illnesses.
The cloud platform, launched by GenoSpace, aims to offer patients personalised medical treatment based on their genes.
According to CloudPro, “The new service allows medical professionals to take data from a patient’s genome and present it in a form that is easier to understand.”
The tool has been developed by John Quackenbush and Mick Correll, who previously worked together at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, creating software systems to link clinical and research data. Together they have now developed a cloud-based data storage and SaaS platform which carries out genomic data analysis for individual patients.
John Quackenbush, GenoSpace chief executive, is quoted by CloudPro as saying, "With the cost of genome sequencing falling to $1,000 and below, we quickly recognised that data generation had become a commodity.”
He added, "We wanted to solve the 'last 100 yards' problem and deliver data to individuals and organisations who need to access it in a form that is relevant to their needs. Everyone in medicine and biomedical research - from patients to pharmaceutical companies and everyone else in-between - can benefit from GenoSpace's unique service offerings."
The system uses secure portals and data tools to enable access to genomic and other data that can be used to “build relationships with other stakeholders in mutually beneficial ways [to] accelerate disease research and drive personalised medicine".
The company claims to open up new opportunities for individuals, physicians, scientists and pharmaceutical companies. Reports say GenoSpace is in talks about a number of ways that the SaaS tool could be implemented in the healthcare sector.
