New study predicts cloud computing growth

A new research study has shown that the majority of companies who have set aside separate budgets for cloud computing predict that they will be spending more on the medium in the future.

TheInfoPro's Wave 5 Cloud Computing Study was based on data collected over the course of the first half of this year from both IT management and key decision-makers in medium and large enterprises located across Europe and North America. The research showed that 69 per cent of enterprises with separate cloud computing budgets were predicting spending increases over the rest of this year and into next year.

Other key findings from the report include a belief that the global cloud computing market will grow at a 36 per cent compound annual growth rate through to 2016, when the recorded market share will be around $19.5 billion.

TheInfoPro report highlights the fact that increasing numbers of companies are now setting aside separate budgets for cloud computing, such is the rising interest in and reliance on the medium.

In terms of getting as much as possible out of the cloud medium, certain companies felt that there were roadblocks standing in their way. Eighty-three per cent of enterprises referenced politics, budget, time and staff as the main issues preventing even more efficiency being gleaned from cloud computing.

A lack of clarity regarding organisation and budget was referenced by 37 per cent, while a resistance to change was referenced by 16 per cent of companies surveyed.

Businesses looking to move services into the cloud, should evaluate the performance of their existing network and consider setting up a leased line or MPLS network.
