Cloud computing uptake on the rise
Cloud computing uptake on the rise
Leased lines and managed networks are likely to be on the agenda of many businesses as research shows that cloud computing uptake is due to rise over the next couple of years.
Conducted by IBM, the study found that 75 per cent of organisations are planning to move to cloud computing infrastructure during the next two years.
The results could explain why there is so much interest surrounding cloud computing while 40 per cent of firms are yet to engage in the technology as more businesses appear to be carefully planning their switch rather than jumping straight on the trend.
Meanwhile, different organisations are planning on using different cloud services, with 22 per cent investing in the private cloud, 19 per cent in enterprise and or mission critical and 11 per cent expecting to purchase out of the box applications.
Another key driver behind cloud adoption was identified as mobile use, with a strong link uncovered between the adoption of mobile and cloud. Indeed, 51 per cent of respondents cited the adoption of cloud technologies as part of their mobile strategy, as the cloud can improve the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of handling demand surges.
But the top pros of the cloud were identified as flexibility, scalability and the reduction of operating expenses. The cons were found to be security, compatibility with existing applications, privacy and performance.
The risks of these cons becoming an issue can be significantly reduced by ensuring that the networks behind the cloud system are up to scratch.
