Cloud computing testers requested
Participants for the beta testing of HP's public cloud offering have been called for by the IT firm.
Emil Sayegh, vice-president of emerging cloud services at HP, issued the invitation for testers in a blog post earlier this month. The company is keen to test the infrastructure requirements and overall experience of its HP Cloud Compute and HP Cloud Object Storage services.
Cloud Compute allows users to deploy compute instances on-demand. These can also be customised to handle unique workloads and can be scaled quickly depending on requirements.
The Cloud Object Storage system, meanwhile, focuses on scalable online storage capacity. Again this can be adjusted on-demand and enables users to archive and back up their data. HP states that it is also suitable for serving stating content for web applications and storing large public or private data sets, such as online files and media.
HP's goal with its cloud offerings is to provide “the next generation of cloud infrastructure, platform services and cloud solutions”. It states that close work with the developer community and a combination of the best open source technology and the company's own harder and software portfolio should help achieve this and deliver the best possible customer experience.
Only a limited number of groups will be able to test the beta technology and applications can be made on the HP Cloud website. But companies interested in testing the new cloud technology or moving towards cloud computing in general will need to check that their own networks are up to the job.
