Cloud computing set to change IT vendor system
The IT vendor system is due to be radically changed by cloud computing, according to one industry representative.
Rolf Schwirz, chief executive of Fujitsu Technology Services, stated at the company's Forum in Munich that the change could be so significant that those that are not on board risk not surviving as the cloud gathers pace.
Data Center Dynamics reported Mr Schwirz as saying: “What will change will be the IT users – when you are provided with a cloud service, your IT decisions can be reversed all of a sudden, whereas today it is very difficult to reverse IT decisions.”
He explained that essentially, IT will undergo a culture change shifting thought away from technology in the stack and towards services that can support the core business of the company in the best way.
The comments follow the launch of a number of new cloud computing services launched by Fujitsu this month as the company makes its own commitment.
However, at the moment it is not possible to determine the exact nature of the market, the chief executive noted. But it will see the customer take more control, while IT infrastructure will become less important to the end user.
These changes will inevitably affect the vendor's landscape and new names will start to appear as businesses go “full steam into the cloud”.
Of course businesses themselves need to be prepared for the move to the cloud. Checking through networks and, if necessary investing in MPLS networks or leased lines, is going to be high on the checklist of things to consider.
