Cloud computing praised by former Dragon's Den star
Cloud computing has received the seal of approval from former Dragon's Den star James Caan.
Speaking at the Ahead in the Clouds event in London, the businessman and entrepreneur explained that cloud computing offers one of the best opportunities for new businesses for years.
“A business could get off the ground these days with just £5,000 to £10,000's worth of funding,” he was reported by IT Pro as stating, explaining that this is possible due to technology.
With this figure in mind, cloud computing can really help to free up more cash to help a company grow in its early years. Indeed, Mr Caan himself used the technology when his business moved office and one of his first thoughts was how surprisingly cheap the service is.
“My first thought was 'what was the cost?' When I was told that it was £1,500 a month I thought that a zero had been left off the figure,” he stated.
In addition to financial savings, cloud computing can improve efficiency. But it also enjoys a level of flexibility that is above that of traditional IT systems, making it an ideal solution for young companies that are unable to predict their growth rate for the moment.
However, to get the best results from such a system it is worth considering the performance of the hardware on a business network and, if it is not up to scratch, installing a leased line or MPLS to improve the speed and security of the cloud.
Mr Caan added that the UK could really benefit as a whole from cloud computing technology if the country were to invest in it and follow its progress.
His thoughts were echoed by Eric Van Der Kleij, chief executive of Tech City Investment, who told the news source that agile development tools and cloud computing allow companies to 'throw up ideas very quickly to see if they work', increasing the possibilities of growth and new business.
