Cloud computing 'offers less threat' to IT security
According to an IT expert, cloud computing offers less of a threat to corporate IT security than the non-cloud environment.
Allaying fears about cloud computing having an effect on the security of business IT systems, Winston Damarillo, CEO and co-founder of Morphlabs, a leader in converged infrastructure solutions for the enterprise, told Sun Star that the technology was ‘more solid’ than the traditional non-cloud environment.
The information sharing that cloud computing allows - which is seen as one of the most important changes to the face of IT in years - can make firms wary as they are concerned about the security of their servers.
However, Damarillo, who is based in Silicon Valley, said, “It’s not a threat to security ... On average, if you look at what they call service level agreement, cloud computing is more solid than non-cloud environment.”
The industry expert also went on to tell the newspaper that cloud computing was more cost effective than the non-cloud set-up, as people only had to pay for what they needed.
“Cloud computing is like power, you have a 220 volts plug, and you only pay for what your appliance use … It saves a lot of money, in terms of power, and it reduces the number of computers you are going to need … It makes the application easy to use,” he went on to say.
Cloud computing – already making its mark on businesses across the world, looks set to become the most widely-used IT infrastructure.
Damarillo added that we would soon forget that there are servers at all. “We’ll expect applications to be downloadable from the Internet and you just log on and use it,” he told Sun Star.
