Cloud computing needed to keep up to speed
Cloud computing is one of the only realistic ways in which companies can keep up to speed with the business world around them, it has been suggested.
Speaking at the CA World conference in Las Vegas this week, Bill McCracken, chief executive at CA Technologies, explained that IT departments are under pressure to keep up with heightened competition and economic changes, CFO World reported.
He remarked: “Chief executives have always felt they know what they want to do but that they just cannot make the change happen fast enough.
“Often IT is holding them back, and you can see that with chief information officers spending much less time in the role than their C-level counterparts.”
Cloud technology, however, can allow systems to “go live or be changed rapidly across businesses”. This makes it an ideal way for companies to tackle the challenges of the day and suggests that it is starting to become essential for firms that need to shift rapidly to different conditions in order to succeed.
Fortunately, a number of recent studies have suggested that companies are becoming aware of the importance of a flexible IT system and cloud computing adoption rates are on the rise.
For example, the Open Data Center Alliance (ODCA) published a report showing that its members are increasingly likely to invest in cloud computing adoption, with predictions for the third quarter of the year five times higher than those for the second quarter.
In fact, around 90 per cent of ODCA members have completed strategic planning for cloud implementation or are already actively developing their plans for adoption, while a further 40 per cent expect to run more than 40 per cent of their internal IT in cloud environments within the next two years.
Businesses looking to move services into the cloud should evaluate the performance of their existing network and consider setting up a leased line or MPLS network.
