Cloud computing 'lives up to industry hype'
New research shows that companies adopting cloud computing believe the technology has lived up to the hype.
A survey conducted by Tata Communications found that 85 per cent of businesses with over 500 employees believe cloud has helped their firm.
Some of the respondents to the poll were particularly convinced about the benefits of using cloud computing, as 23 per cent declared that using the cloud had exceeded their expectations.
Julie Woods-Moss, CMO and CEO of NextGen Business at Tata Communications, stated that the cloud has "exited the hype cycle and entered the real adoption phase for businesses globally".
She added: "It is now a strategic investment and a competitive differentiator. As a result, the network that enables cloud adoption is critical, and new services, such as our IZO network platform and partner ecosystem, are fundamental to creating a simple way for companies to adopt the cloud model most suited to business requirements – be that private, public or hybrid."
The Tata study found that increased productivity was the most-seen benefit of cloud adoption by business, with two-thirds (69 per cent) citing this as the main advantage they have witnessed.
Among the other top benefits revealed by the study were better access to data (65 per cent) and reductions in costs (63 per cent), showing the range of advantages firms moving to the cloud are able to achieve.
Nearly two-thirds (65 per cent) of respondents to the Tata research said using the cloud had led to increased speed of access to technology at their business.
A similar number of those taking part in the poll (67 per cent) revealed that they have experienced reduced delivery times to clients and partners since they adopted cloud technologies. Over half (54 per cent) said they have cut the delivery time of new services to new markets or geographies.
Businesses looking to move services into the cloud should evaluate the performance of their existing network and consider setting up a leased line or MPLS network.
