Cloud computing deployment 'set to triple'
Cloud computing deployment looks set to triple within the next two years, according to a recent report published by the Open Data Center Alliance (ODCA).
The organisation surveyed its members and found that adoption predictions for the third quarter of the year are five times as fast as those for the second quarter, with billions of pounds set to be invested in worldwide operations.
However, businesses planning deployment in the coming years might first want to check that their systems are up to the job and, if they find that the service is too slow when accessing some applications, it could be worth researching leased lines and managed networks.
Matthew Eastwood, group vice-president and general manager at IDC's Enterprise Platform Group, observed that the increase in cloud operations is substantially faster than other broader forecasts had previously suggested. He added: "By bringing together leading edge cloud adopters and leading providers, and establishing collaborations with key standards bodies, the ODCA has created a central source to address the top challenges enterprises face in adoption of cloud.
"The organisation has produced a unique opportunity for accelerated, customer prioritised innovation, which is reflected in this aggressive forecast of cloud adoption."
Indeed, over 90 per cent of ODCA members have completed strategic planning for cloud implementation or are already actively developing their plans for adoption.
Meanwhile, more than 40 per cent of members expect to run more than 40 per cent of their internal IT in cloud environments in the next 24 months and 30 per cent of members were predominantly looking at moving their human resources, legal and finance applications to the cloud.
