Cloud computing can avoid 'technology headaches'
The headaches and problems associated with technology solutions can be avoided through the use of cloud computing.
This is according to Phil Wainewright, UK vice-chairman for non-profit organisation EuroCloud. Speaking to Hostway, Mr Wainewright stated that firms often experience difficulties when they are responsible for their own servers and software but these can often be avoided by outsourcing to hosting companies and providers such as hSo.
He explained: “Because the application is already up and running, the provider takes care of making sure that it keeps running and actually keeps upgrading it with extra functionality over time.
“It's less likely for the servers to get burgled [with unified communications], they're less exposed to people just being able to get access to them and download material.”
Indeed, the security risks of cloud computing services are often lower than those of in-house servers due to improved control, which could be one factor tempting businesses towards the cloud.
According to a recent report from KPMG, the vast majority of senior executives claim that their organisations have already begun to move some of their business activities to the cloud, and more are expected to follow suit. Those surveyed stated that they expect investment in the sector to “skyrocket” by 2012, with a number of companies planning on spending more than a fifth of their yearly IT budget on the cloud.
Bryan Cruickshank, head of global IT advisory and management consulting with the accountancy firm, stated that the findings reveal that “the cloud is now”. He added: “Clearly cloud is transcending IT and widely impacting business operations, as a full third of survey respondents said it would fundamentally change their business, which is significant considering many organisations are still developing their cloud strategies.”
