Newcastle gets 4G coverage
Newcastle is the latest place to enjoy the new fourth generation mobile service, 4G, after it was launched in the city on 4 December.
The new superfast mobile technology has been installed through operator Everything Everywhere (EE), who selected Newcastle to benefit as part of its second-wave roll-out of its service. The first wave received the technology back in October 2011.
Alan Foster, who runs local marketing business Design 365, spoke to nebusiness.co.uk about the new technology. He said it meant goods things for the Newcastle economy and for small businesses in the region who have suffered with poor connectivity until now. He stated, “4G brings with it great options for businesses of all sizes and is a real boost for the region’s economy. Being able to work remotely and host video conferencing quickly and easily is a huge benefit and could save a lot of money in unnecessary travel costs.”
He added that the new fast connection has allowed his firm to offer even quicker results and services for customers, allowing them to compete more effectively on a national level.
The roll-out has also been welcomed by the local Chamber of Commerce for the North East. Its policy adviser, Mark Stephenson, stated, “It is fantastic that Newcastle has been selected as one of the first cities to benefit from the 4G roll-out and I urge businesses to make full use of the super-fast mobile service.”
Businesses that want to take advantage of remote working, video conferencing and other time and money-saving technologies can do so by opting for managed network services through a leased line.
