Leading management consultancy Cambridge Econometrics sought to migrate to the cloud in order to enable remote working whilst also protecting its company data. After seeing the benefits it could gain from interconnected Microsoft solutions and Microsoft’s continuous investment in Azure and Microsoft 365, the company decided that Azure would be its best fit.
Cambridge Econometrics opted to migrate its line-of-business apps to an Azure platform with Microsoft 365 apps, to ensure the environment could grow and scale as needed, while also providing built-in security resilience and cost-effective billing.
The company’s email capacity, search and synchronization were improved by moving to Microsoft 365, while SharePoint Online and OneDrive were deployed to allow employees better remote access to apps and documents, enabling greater work flexibility.
Due to the company’s security requirements, its environment was configured to include multi-factor identification (MFA) to guard against breaches, while Microsoft Azure Cloud Backup provides a reliable failover in the event of a power outage.
Finally, the implementation of Teams dramatically improved the company’s internal and external communications, offering employees integrated calendars, instant messaging, document sharing, internal and external calling and videoconferencing. The changes to the company’s phone system and the implementation of videoconferencing in boardrooms has ensured seamless communication while many employees have worked remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cambridge Econometrics Chairman Richard Lewney said: “[W]ith the onset of COVID-19, the secure, remote capabilities of the new system came into their own: all users could continue to work from home in a smooth transition which minimized disruption.”
Concerning the overall migration, IT Manager Keith Dixon added that “the rollout was seamless. The productivity boost, mobility and added security has had an immediate, lasting impact.”
Following its migration, Cambridge Econometrics is now enjoying the benefits of a cloud upgrade and improved security enhancements, with a fully cloud-secure, remote-work enabled infrastructure that means all employees can no work remotely and securely.
