Pump manufacturer uses Azure Purview to develop sustainable water solutions
Pump manufacturer Grundfos provides heating, cooling, and clean water services to people all over the world. Over recent years, the Denmark-based company has transformed into more than just a manufacturer and now uses Internet of Things (IoT) data collection and data analysis to help to create innovative solutions for the planet’s water and climate challenges.
As Grundfos grew digitally and the volume of the data it collected increased, the company had to find new ways to track and manage it all in one place. It opted for a new data governance service, Microsoft Azure Purview, where it could holistically look at the data from the whole company from pump IoT sensors, software as a service (SaaS) sources, and on-premises sources.
Thomas Asger Hansen, Senior Manager, Enterprise Data and AI at Grundfos, said: “We had weekly conversations with the Microsoft product teams and saw that the Azure Purview team’s vision aligned with ours - not only for the development of our digital solutions but also ideas about long-term governance success. This was the strongest data governance option that we found.”
Grundfos chose to use Microsoft Azure Purview together with Azure Synapse Analytics, Power BI, Azure Data Lake Storage and SQL Server, which has enabled it to increase automation, reduce manual data entry, improve compliance and provide its employees with insights from all the data. This has allowed staff to make better decisions and identify new opportunities for the Grundfos’ customers.
Azure Purview has not only enabled the firm to bring together all of its data, but means the company can now create new solutions. “With Azure Purview, we’ll accelerate our ability to track and interpret a wide range of data, which we’ll use to create solutions at scale that truly help improve the environment and people’s lives,” Hansen added.
“Adopting Azure Purview helps us free up time for our resources to be used for more purposeful, proactive work,” Hansen continued. “We’ll do things with Azure Purview that would be incredibly difficult to do otherwise. It would take probably five times as many resources to achieve what we plan to accomplish with Azure Purview.”
