ENSEK helps clients reduce costs with AWS
ENSEK is a UK-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) firm that provides the technology used by energy retailers, with its solutions helping to power millions of energy meters worldwide. With energy retailers facing changing consumer expectations, climate challenges and increasing regulation, the need for a comprehensive digital strategy is more present than ever.
In order to help clients attain this, ENSEK built a cloud-native solution using Amazon Web Services (AWS). This solution, built on an API-first architecture, supports retailers through the full customer life cycle and can enable ENSEK’s clients to reduce operating costs, while optimising customer experience and freeing up resources to drive energy transition.
ENSEK’s solution was built entirely on AWS and utilises automated workflows, real-time billing, mobile apps for customers and multichannel communication with Amazon Connect. The solution enables ENSEK customers to pursue digital transformation without the need to develop their own solutions.
The solution typically helps customers cut costs by more than 50 per cent and, through technologies such as AWS Lambda and Availability Zones, can be deployed to new customers or regions quickly. ENSEK co-founder and Chief Technology Officer James Kirk said: “ENSEK can move fast to meet customers’ needs, and a lot of that can be attributed to our use of AWS services. We were able to launch a pilot on AWS, localized to Belgium, within 8 weeks.”
Technologies including Amazon SNS and Amazon SQS enabled ENSEK to build an “event bus”, through which millions of events pass daily, allowing real-time performance of tasks such as generating bills, smart meter communication and taking payment. Events also go to the ENSEK Digital Insights solution, with data being used to drive insights and future improvements.
The API-first approach used for the solution enables both interoperability and flexibility, helping retailers to adapt and improve their customer experience. The design is the foundation helping ENSEK’s customers undertake digital transformation.
Looking forward, the company will look to innovate its technology to help customers continue their digital transformation and to support their decarbonisation, decentralisation and digitisation efforts. James Kirk commented: “For us to be successful, we need to clear a path for our customers. The AWS team has shown a real ability and willingness to help us solve problems for our customers. That’s been key to our business development efforts and expansion into Belgium and Australia.”
